the winds long to play with your hair."

Kristin & Galen

I had the opportunity to attend a friend's wedding the end of June.

It was a gorgeous day out and the bride was beautiful.  The ceremony was intimate and in a perfect setting; right on the water in Portland, Maine.

The happy couple wrote their own emotional vows to each other.  It was a lovely ceremony.

The reception was in an equally wonderful location.  Dinner was a small intimate meal as well.

Then, the real party began when all the other guests showed up for dancing and cake.

So happy I was able to share in their beautiful day and get to take wedding photos for the first time and not have the pressure of being the actual, paid photographer!

My life held very little meaning.

All-consuming pain.

Fear and anger enveloped me.

I was drowning in life itself.

Words floated in my head;

they anchored my heart in sadness.

The pain swallowed me whole;

I fell into an abyss.

The water slowly

whirling around and around,

a vortex swallowing me whole,

until all sense of reality was gone.

In the dark.

The dark liquid slowly oozing through all orifices.

Losing air.

Losing life.

Losing everything.

Slowly it seeped into my lungs ,

spreading deep and ugly,

taking away my life.

Drowning in sadness;

drowning in fear;

drowning in anger;

drowning in life.

My lungs began to quiver,

My light, growing ever dimmer.

Sinking farther into the abyss;

I was gone.

Tempe: Age 2

 Yesterday, I had the opportunity to photograph the beautiful Miss Temperance.  She turned 2 in the spring and we were just getting around to doing her photos.  I am so happy we waited, because the day was perfect and so were her outfits!

Tempe and her mommy.

There was a bug that had captured her attention, so we went with it.

So serious!  This little girl has so many facial expressions that crack me up!

This has to be one of my favorites.  I know you can't see her face, but I love it.  So sweet and simple.

She looks like a sweet little doll here.

I admit, this photo is not the best crop-wise, but I loved her facial expression and had to add it.

Such attitude.

Peekaboo, mommy, I see you!

Another bug caught her attention; an ant this time.

Awww, if we could all be this carefree.

Little sailor girl.

Tempe Turns 2!

This is just a mismatch bunch of photos I took while at Tempe's 2nd Birthday.  I am going to be taking her 2 year photos later this month, but her mommy wanted a family photo since her entire family was going to be there.  This first photo was me being silly in the bathroom while I was waiting for me son to get done using the potty.

The birthday girl loving all the attention.

My son loves dogs and Betsy is a great dog around kids.

The whole group!

She wasn't sure what to make of this.

Tempe- she is so sweet!

There's always the weekend

I really feel the need to get out and take photographs. Today is beautiful; a rare warm March day in Maine. I am stuck inside working when all I want is to be out enjoying nice weather, even if the ground is covered in icky mud. Alas, I must work......I guess there's always the weekend!

50mm Practice

 I received my 50mm 1.8 lens on Saturday!  It came in the mail much more quickly than I was expecting, so I spent the afternoon taking pictures while my husband was so nice as to take our son on a father/son adventure to Home Depot.  Of course, that left me with my usual subjects:  the kitties and random objects around the house.   I was okay with that though; I had a new toy to play with!

 The kitties were all napping, so I nicely went into each room and woke them up with the sound of my shutter going off every few seconds!  They bug me all the time while I sleep, so I really felt no guilt about it at all! You can see the attitude Ky Ky was giving me below as I was swiveling "her" computer chair around to get the best light on her face.
 I have to say that I had a lot of fun with my camera yesterday.  I tried out some random objects in the house.  Some were way too random and just didn't work composition-wise, so they aren't in the set of photos.  It was fun nonetheless.  My favorites had to be the beer bottles that my husband left by the kitchen sink.  It was a bout 3 or 4 o'clock in the afternoon and the light coming in the back windows was absolutley perfect.  Once I uploaded my photos, I did notice that I still need to work on my shaking hands.  Many photos I knew were in focus, but when I was kneeling to take the photos, I was not steady.  I would say about half of the photos came out how I wanted them to.
 I have Lightroom 3 that my husband bought me for Christmas.  I love the few perks that I have being a teacher, and getting a discount on editing software is one of them!  I would love to have Photoshop someday, as I think I am limited in some respects with Lightroom, but I am still learning the program as I go along.  My new favorite thing is to google "free Lightroom presets and templates".  I have actually found quite a few out there.  I used many of them on this set of photographs.  Of course, I went back and messed with things after I applied the presets, but didn't have to do a whole lot.  I like that there are some peoplpe out there willing to share what they create for free.  I hope to learn how to create presets and return the favor someday.  I don't, by any means, think using just pre-made presets is the way to go all the time, but it makes the process go much quicker.
That's it, my first collection of 50mm shots.  I took a few more today.  I live in Maine, so I have to wait a little while until the flowers and nice weather arrive in order to get out there and do even more photos.  We just got a half foot of snow the other day, so it will be a little while.  We are in our mud season now; I am trying to find something pretty about it so that I can be inspired, but alas, I have not found anything yet.
